  • Apples
  • Honey (optional)

Instructions

Preparing the Apples

  • Select fresh, ripe apples without signs of spoilage. Any variety will work, but sweeter apples like Golden are ideal.
  • Wash the apples thoroughly under running water.
  • Quarter the apples, remove the core and seeds.

Making Apple Puree

  • Choose one of two methods for softening the apples: baking or simmering. Baking is used in this recipe:Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).Place the apple quarters on a rimmed baking tray, add a small amount of water, and cover with foil. Bake for 40–45 minutes.
  • For simmering, transfer apple quarters to a pot with water. Cook on medium heat for 20–30 minutes until soft.
  • Blend the softened apples into a smooth puree.

Drying the Roll-Ups

  • Lightly grease the dehydrator trays with a neutral oil like coconut oil or grapeseed oil. Avoid sunflower oil, as it can impart a bitter taste.
  • Spread the apple puree evenly across the trays. Aim for approximately 500g of puree per tray for optimal drying.
  • Sprinkle chopped walnuts, seeds, or shredded apples onto the puree for added texture and flavor. (Optional)
  • Set the dehydrator to 45–50°C (113–122°F) and let it run for 10–12 hours. Drying time may vary depending on tray load and room humidity. If not fully dried after 10 hours, continue for another 1–2 hours, checking every hour.
  • Remove the dried roll-ups from the trays and cut into convenient pieces using sanitized scissors.
  • Roll each piece for easy storage and consumption.
